How soon should I place my cake order?
It is NEVER too early to place an order. All orders are booked on a first come first serve basis with a 50% deposit. We are a small shop and there is a maximum number of orders we take each week. Once those spots fill up, we cannot take on anymore. Dates tend to become booked completely 2-3 weeks in advance.. so plan early! The inquiry, design and order process takes time, so orders must be finalized (not just inquired about) 2 weeks prior to the event date.
What is the best way to place an order?
There are a couple of ways to go about inquiring! 1) Send us an email with the date you are inquiring about, the number of servings needed, as well any design ideas, theme, inspiration pictures, etc. that you may have 2) Call or email to set up an appointment. We do appointments Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
I’ve never ordered a custom cake before.. how is it different than a cake from my local grocery store?
We specialize in creating unique edible works of art. Our focus is creating a beautiful edible art piece that will be the hit of the event. All of our cakes are baked fresh, from scratch, using high quality ingredients. All of our design pieces are hand-made, hand-cut and unique to you and your custom cake. We put hours and hours of work into our cakes. We take pride in our edible works of art and strive to make them not only look beautiful, but taste amazing too!
How does the pricing work for a custom cake?
Every single one of our cakes is made custom to order. So the pricing of each cake is going to be custom as well dependent on a number of factors. A lot of the pricing is going to be based on the number of servings as well as the complexity of design. The design possibilities are pretty much limitless! We can take your theme and design a cake that is more on the simplistic side or design a cake that is more on the complex and intricate side. The exact same theme, but the difference in cost could end up being very significantly different.
So how much do your cakes typically run?
When you break the pricing down per serving, they can typically be anywhere from $2.50/serving up to $15/serving. Yes, that’s a broad range, but the range of what we are capable of creating out of cake is very broad too!
Do you cover your cakes in fondant?
We specialize in covering our cakes in smooth buttercream.. So unless otherwise requested, or the design requires the use of it, all cakes are covered in a very smooth buttercream. There are some instances where the desired design does require the cake to be covered in fondant, but there is always a layer of icing underneath.
Do your products contain nuts?
We are NOT a nut free facility as we do use them in certain fillings and toppings. We cannot guarantee any of our products having not come in contact with nuts. Please contact us with any concerns about allergies before placing an order.
Do you offer gluten-free options?
We do not offer any gluten-free items at this time.
Do you offer cake delivery?
Yes, we do offer delivery. There is a delivery charge based on the location of the event. Deliveries are subject to availability.
What is your payment policy?
All orders are booked on a first come, first serve basis with a 50% deposit. The remaining balance is due upon pickup (unless we are delivering, in which case the balance is due one week prior to the event). We can take payment in the shop, over the phone, or online.
What if I cancel or postpone my event?
All deposits are non-refundable. Store credit is issued in the event of a cancellation. Postponed event dates are subject to availability with the new date. Please give us a call to discuss options if you have to cancel or postpone your event.
I left a voicemail/sent an email on Friday.. when should I expect a response?
Simply put- Fridays and Saturdays are the shops busiest days. Please keep in mind that during these busy days, we are focusing on our orders and not usually able to answer the phone or check emails. For the Love of Cake is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so we return all calls and emails left during these days on Tuesdays.
